District & Programs

Special Olympics Ontario is divided into smaller geographical areas for the purposes of administration. Districts are the administrative areas within the province that focus on strategic program and community development. Districts are supported by District Developers who are stationed across the province.

Communities are the local level of Special Olympics, and community councils administer the programs that our athletes participate in each week. Volunteers take a lead role in running the programs and putting things in place for local partnerships and promotion.

While competition often happens within Districts, the conference model is followed for Provincial Qualifiers. Find out more about conferences in section 11 of SOO's information portal: http://info.specialolympicsontario.ca/programs-policies-procedures/11-0---competitions/11-16---sport-specific-conference-teams.

You can use the map below to find out which communities are in each SOO District.
